Some day I would like to fly an RC plane like this but understand that even though I don't like the looks of the Tyro, it would make a better first RC flier/trainer. Any chance the MM P-38 or Hellcat would be ok first fliers of should I start with the Tyro? jgood 19-Feb-08 17:28 Hey Steve. The Hellcat was my first aileron aircraft. The P-38 my second. The Tyro might be a better choice because it's a bit tougher and goes together quicker, but I think the Hellcat is also a fine choice, and it has that scale thing going for it. They all fly marvelously (Mike Molt wisely increased dihedral and tail size on the F4F and P-38 to improve stability), although the P-38 is no performance maching on the stock IPS motors. The Hellcat is fine on the IPS, and a rocket machine on a small CD-ROM motor. Go for the Hellcat! The Tyro comes into it's own as a utility machine for me, carrying my camera. The steerable nose wheels on the P-38 and Tyro really make for nice ground handling, something that adds to the whole touch and go fun you can have with these. Please sign in to comment on this image.
