scirocco14 | 20-Jul-09 16:42 | The nose came out pretty good considering I did it all by "eye", I think! |
hjlittman | 20-Jul-09 20:30 | The nose looks very good.
I suggest that you check that Guillow's thrust button for slop. There should be minimal lateral play in the shaft. If you can tilt it noticeably you probably want to replace it with a Dare or some other thrust button that will take a 3/64 inch shaft. You will get better thrust line adjustments.
Also, after making adjustments to the thrust line, the tighter the nose block stays on the model the better. I use small rare earth magnets (available at Michael's and other craft stores. The silver ones, not the black ones.) to hold the nose block on. Pole to pole the little 1/8 inch magnets have a grip strength of over a pound. They also provide ballast in the nose that has some other useful function. |
scirocco14 | 20-Jul-09 20:55 | Thanks, Howard. This thrust button is actually one of the old ones (came from a kit I've had in the closet for close to 25 years). So it seems to be pretty good.
Thanks for the tip on the rare earth magnets, I have a Michael's down the street from me that I'll check out.
