Many of us have, at one time or another, dealt with Guillow's prime quality balsa! |

this was bad I had to use my scroll saw to cut most of it out.Why dont they do something about it? |

I dont think that its just Guillows kits. The Aerographics Fokker Eindecker had ten 1/16 sq strips when i only needed two. And 2 3/32 when i needed 6, also not enough 1/32 and 1/16 for covering the cowl and fuselage. |

My Goose, and Rat were scatched. I purchased the wood. The 6 in wide sheets of 1/32 balsa, seemed like iron on one side and normal on the other side. This became apparent while cutting making wing formers. It was as if half the sheet was compressed. |

John O., I have a thread going at the Guillow's forum asking where people get their sheet wood for skinning. Would you kindly post there where you get your wood? |

And any anyone else that hasn't already posted their info there. I am trying to find a good source for both static and flying models, so weight of the wood can be important. |

It wasan't the quality of the wood that bothered me as much as that they didn't stamp out anything It was like the wood got printed then they forgot to stamp it.Now I now what its like to scratch build. My hats off to you guys who scratch build. |

I had almost 2hours just cuting out the parts then I had to make all of the cuts for the stringers. It was good practice for when I build one from scratch.. |

Case in point. My Mossie, horrible and I mean horrible balsa. Used one piece of the supplied wood the whole build. Much happier with scratch building it. |

must not have quality control at guillows. |

I have been saying this about Guillows balsa and some thought I was being over critical. Perhaps the die that punched your balsa is in need of retooling! |

After looking at your earlier builds it seems you use a body filler. The results are great. How is it to work with? |
menu jr | 06-Apr-08 15:11 |
I like working with body filler its cheep and easy to use makes alot of dust and has a smell. It drys fast you dont have to wait to sand.If you never worked with it it takes a bit of practice but not any differnt then working with hobby lite. |
John M Oshust | 06-Apr-08 16:06 |
