| Xanadu | 11-May-11 08:02 | | To me, I enjoy building as I find it quite relaxing and leaves the stress of my day behind.
You get to make sure its built properly, good glue joints, etc, and the satisfaction of building it. This one still required quite a bit of carving, shaping, etc.
But you have to trade off with time investment. You have a devastating crash and you lost countless hours, etc. Where as an ARF, very little time was involved as most can fly within a 2-5 hours of assembly. |
| Xanadu | 11-May-11 08:06 | | I do have some ARFS as well, and still have 5 more kits. A Top Flite P-40, and a Adrian Page GeeBee to build yet, along with a Guillow's P-38 and B-17, and a foam GWS P-38 that is 1/2 done.
I will be spending most of the summer flying though, but will always have something on the build bench.
I also build some scratch built ones from foam, and fly them. David saw one of them in Bismark, his words were "Gawd ugly"......but it fly's fantastic! Quick to build, cheap, and fun to fly in between things during builds. |
| Xanadu | 11-May-11 08:09 | | Needless to say, I will be quite nervous for the maiden flight later this summer. One serious mistake and it could end up as a pile of firewood. This version is known to be a good flier, so we will see.
The manual for this says "quick and easy build"....NOT....I put countless hours in this, and there was few things on it that I had never done before, so made it more complicated for me and time consuming. The mechanical retracts and wheel wells were a real pain being my first time, but at least for later ones I know what to do. |

| Xanadu | 11-May-11 16:12 | | Nice, I have the HOB BF-109 I still have not finished yet either. Needs covering and rc gear. Nice build, lots of shaping, sanding, etc required. Kinda things like "take this block and make a cowling out of it like the picture". |

Use a Scorpion 2205-36 motor, APC 6-4E prop, 15 amp controller and a 3 cell 1000 MA LIPO battery pack |
