biplane guy | 03-Apr-20 09:43 | That is impressive! All of this new technology is leaving us geezers behind. In the very near future you'll be able to to open an app on your iPhone, select an aircraft model from a drop-down menu, select the engine you prefer, location and quantity of oil stains on the crankcase, hit select and have it waiting on your 3D printer by the time you get home from work. |
Creosotewind | 15-May-20 11:28 | In the last couple of years I had emailed the owner of Williams Bros. and asked if they were going to make engines in different scales, particularly 1/16 scale. He said he was looking into 3-D printing. Maybe soon...? Ed, this is really awesome. Looking forward to seeing this one completed. |
edtherenderman | 15-May-20 15:15 | Thanks for the comments! I didn't know that Williams Bros, are still in business. I used their kits all the time for r/c aircraft. Good stuff.
@Biplane Guy: I sure hope we never get to that reality! I probably put in 80 hours just creating the 3D model for the engine, not counting printing, painting, assembly, etc. But to me, its the same love of modeling, just a different media. I love it all. |
