droid | 29-Jun-08 15:40 | Arrow conversion - now being changed to Hacker A10-15S and Thunderbird-6 ESC for more climbing power - will try to see if 350mAh 2S LIPO will balance nose or not - project (Hacker) just started today |
droid | 29-Jun-08 19:02 | oh, and do not use these wheels, way to flimsy. Switching to Maxx EPW125. On another note - this plane has a (classic) lifting horiz. stabilizer. |
mleduc | 29-Jun-08 22:27 | This is a great looking plane. I have been lurking here for a while and am very curious to see how this turns out as I am looking for a good "starter" electric rc project and the venerable Arrow has been beckoning me from my Guillows stash. If this turns out to be an unsuitable first time project please let me know. To my eye it looks like it would have benign flight characteristics. But great job! I'm blown away. |
droid | 02-Jul-08 23:07 | This was my first rubber-band to RC electric conversion project, the plans are very simple and the volume of the fuselage is such that you can easily position equipment in various places to get the right CG. It has such a classic look as well and it stands out as such. The plane requires some modifications to be able to work with the added weight, and as you see there are some areas I added thin sheeting or carbon for the higher wing loading. The elevator and rudder are the areas where most of the creative changes took place, and possibly there are better ways to make the needed changes. It may be a good idea to go to a more optimal symmetric airfoil on the horizontal stabilizer, and a total redesign on the vertical (move it forward?) to avoid the odd rudder cutout for the moving surface on the elevator. The gear is a bit soft, and the stringers in the fuselage are a bit delicate. The flying surfaces are however very solid. Once you figure out where the CG is it flies very mild mannered. It lends itself to very fun and colorful color schemes ! and it sure looks unusual. I have the new motor and ESC and will work on the power upgrade tonight. |
mleduc | 03-Jul-08 01:40 | As I said previously, I really like it. I have been wanting to get into the park-flier deal for a while and haven't been to excited about getting started with RTF foamies as I have been building Guillows and Comet kits since I was a kid and think it would be a cop out to go that easy way and not suffer a teeth gritting crash or two. I would have my eye on a red and white scheme for my Arrow and I'd really love to see some in flight photos of yours if you get the opportunity, though I'm more than grateful to see what you have accomplished here so far... It has been very informative. |
