This is a picture showing a flaw in the plan, the spar slots in the plan don't account for the displacement when they are cracked. Not a problem, but something to take into account.

Is that balsa or oak? Is this an older kit? When I get heavy C grain sheets I send them back to Guillow for better quality. So far good build.

Thanks - It's balsa, also brand new kit, and I have just started building flying models, what is "C" grain? any help will be very appreciated!

A/B/C grain refers to how the wood is cut relative to the log it was cut from. Check out this guide for a better description. Incidentally, I just purchased a B-25 with half of the sheet wood soft and die crushed and the other half heavy/hard wood but with razor sharp die cut lines. I'm not going to build it to fly so I guess I'll try getting the die crushed wood replaced. If I was trying to fly it I would either need all new wood or to cut my own.

Thanks for the balsa info. I am using balsa left over from the Barrel for the Rat. Half of the width of 6 in x 36 x 1/16 sheets were so hard that I thought I might need a torch to cut it. Still the hard wood was better than the "pop corn" Balsa that Guillows sent with my Spirit!

Thanks for the info everybody! This kit was kind of like SteveM's B-25, in the fact that it had a very soft "A" grain balsa, and a hard "C" grain balsa, but I will make any parts that are too hard or too soft (I made the F2 ribs in the picture (they are the bent/cracked ones).
