Moostang... My Uncle John, for who I am named. Died in a 24. I have his letters that state "I never liked the flex of the wings"!

A real hero.

Yes, a real heroe, and I supect he is better looking than you. The stamp book in the picture also used to come in 5 and 10 cents books. I used to buy them in grade school.

Everybody is better looking than me.

So many airmen lost their lives flying an aircraft that the US thought could "fly the pants off all other aircraft". Though its' flight distance was unmatched, it's vulnerability to enemy fighters and difficulty in handling in some minds far outweighed it's bombibg efficiency. It's because of the sacrifice of young men like your uncle that were not eating Borscht or rice every night.

Wait..not you Poppy!! I was referring to better looking than John "O".........my! sincere apologies, please!

Gentlemen, I wish I could have met this man. I still read his flight manuals. Don't fly bombing missions to oil fields in Rumania. My Mom told me he was quite a gent. Dam I may have to build a 24 for him!

That would be a great and fitting tribute to him.

A very large 24 is in the queue. I am looking thru family photos to find a pix of his plane!
sweetwillie04-Feb-08 19:12
Great, I'll look forward to seeing it's construction. Today, I stripped all the tissue from my Bipe and strengthened the wings with more stringers, and as soon as I get the balsa I'll cover it with balsa. Thanks for your inspiration.
John M Oshust04-Feb-08 19:27
Get ready for this the 24 will cost too much to use balsa or bass....thin plywood!
sweetwillie04-Feb-08 19:49
Well, I know that it'll be a work of art.
BriandKilby24-Feb-14 19:20
did you ever build the b-24 john?
John M Oshust24-Feb-14 20:00
No sir I have not and probably never will. I have lost interest in modern aircraft construction.
