Either those are some big-a** models or you have mighty small people in that town.

R/C models of 1/4 to 1/2 scale are very popular. At the AMA convention, in January, I saw a 1/2 scale Piper Cub. It had so much plywood and steel in it that, I'll bet with the radio equipment removed, and a seat, joystick and rudder pedals installed, it could be licensed as an ultra-lite aircraft. It's not uncommon to find models at the flying field with 40 or more horsepower engines or jets with 50 or 60 pounds of thrust. Some of the jets move at 220 mph or better and even electric ducted fan jet models in this size range can go over 150 mph. Often the guys that build them turn the flying over to someone with a lot more experience. Easy to understand if you have a model that cost as much, or more than a fully equipped, mid-sized car.

These are some beautiful models. More pictures of the WW1 aircraft?
