I really like that construction method you used on the rudder... What thickness balsa is that?

The ribs are 1/32 inch stock, The center rib, the ribs where the bracing struts attach, and the ribs on either side of break line at the top of the fin have 1/32 webs in them forward of the hinge line, while the rest are hollow. The spars are 3/16 inch square, hard balsa to take the hinge wires. There is 1/32 stock laid on top of the spars between the ribs to keep the whole thing flush. The outlines are 1/16 inch stock except for the stabilizer tips, the bottom of the rudder and the filler rib at the stabilizer/rudder joint which are 3/32 inch stock. When covering, the tissue is attached to the spars on both side of the break line as well as the outlines, After the covering is sealed, but before painting the ribs and covering are cut through at the hinge break line to separate the surfaces and the hinges are installed. I started doing this on smaller models where it was easier to cover a whole elevator or tail than a small control surface. With a model this size it may be a moot point, but it does make it less likely that the elevator and rudder will warp when being covered. On smaller models, without movable surfaces, I sometimes do the tails this way but make the airfoil flat on the left side and cambered on the right as a way to build in a torque adjustment and force a right glide power off.
