Thank you sir.. I guess I have unknowingly fabricated a few. Dorsal fuselage. On a turtle it is the carapace.

Like you, David, I'm surprised as well. These seem a bit exaggerated. I've read that the wing scallops on a SPAD are because the trailing edges are wire, that constrict once the fabric is coated.
