Thanks to everyone for their comments and suggestions! I'll take them into account on the next model. Here's I fixed the problems; I increased the width of the top member too.

Great idea. Does silkspan have a grain associated with the paper. I know the polyspan I use does and the forces applied to the surface have a lot to do with direction of the grain.

Yes, silkspan does have a grain and it does affect the shrinkage. You can sort of see it and a tear will sort of follow the grain. I've warped wings by not having the l\grain run the length of the wing. Jastazwei, it looks like a good fix to me. You sure do a nice smooth job of covering.

I used the tissue that came with this Guillows kit and it does have a grain. I don't know if this is silkspan, do the current Guillows kits include silkspan or the same tissue as the vintage (30-year old) kits? Thanks for the compliments.

It appears to be lightweight silkspan, the same used in all larger Guillows kits. If it were tissue it would have turned into mush when wet for covering.
