Looks great David, amazing work on the plastic on the front. Not sure the Camel had a airfoil shape on it's tail surfaces though?

There are duplicate pieces furnished for the fin and rudder so I'll make another one without an airfoil and use it instead of this one.

David, Are you still attaching the silk-span with glue or are you using dope and thinner? Do you use the silk-span in the kit or from the hobby store?

I always use thinned dope to attach the wet silkspan. The silkspan I use is heavier (more thread count, Martha)than what is provided in a Guillows kit. I did use the kit silkspan, and covered dry, the Wright Flyer and it worked just fine.

Since you guys are talking covering techniques... Is there any harm in attaching covering with white glue and then dope to seal the whole thing over the white glue? BTW David... looks like you are on par for another showpiece!!

OK,checked my Camel references. The stabilizer had an airfoil shape ahead of the hinge line. The movable elevator was flat. Same for all WWI Sopwith designs from the Pup through to the Snipe. (cf. Aircraft Archive, Aircraft of World War One, Argus Books, 1989: Areomodeler, vol XXIII, no 266, March 1958, "Camel Close Up")
