Waiting for paint to come in for my XP-67, so been focusing on the Bugatti. Working on Interior details that I’ll print on the 3D printer. Getting reference materials are hard because there are very few pictures of the interior of the aircraft, both in period and from the replica that was built in the 2000’s. I need to guess on some of this, like the starboard side panel. No pictures that I can find, so I’m guessing this is where all the electrical stuff is.

how's the bugatti coming along ed? are you going to go back to building it?

Thanks for asking Brian! I am, but I think it is going to be the model after next. The XP-67 was such a challenge that I need a break from full scratch building for awhile. I'm looking at one of the kits in my closet. Probably the Guillows 200 series Rumpler C.5 but converted to a C.4. I'll still end up 3D printing a bunch of parts and making my own decals, but tissue covering and die crushed parts should make the building faster.

do you use the printed decals? if so, do you use a white background underneath the decals? i might try that if i can get it right.

The decals are shot (too old and cracked). I like to create my own decals anyway. It's fun to do if you have some skills with PhotoShop and a color inkjet printer. As for painting white / gray underneath, I would always recommend that for any decals (stock or home made) if they are going on a dark surface. Decals tend to be slightly translucent, so putting a white decal on a dark surface is going to make the entire decal darker. It's a pain to have to paint under them, especially if they are small or highly detailed, but I like the result so I do it.
