Ribs pre cut plywood, wing, stab., and rudders tips pre cut and sanded hardwood. Cowl fronts, large ribs, and elevators pre cut and sanded hardwood. I have to say I have never seen a kit of this quality. They just cannot afford to make them like this anymore.

It would seem sacreligious to build this kit.
SteveM22-Apr-09 13:52
Not really, it was intended to be built by people far less capable than you. I suppose if you really want to preserve the kit you could try cutting new wood. Good build choice, I'll be checking 2-3 times a day for updates.

Just what I thought. You don't get kits like these any more. This one should not be built but be kept to show to others what they used to be in the old times.
jgood22-Apr-09 15:26
Not sure I agree that it shouldn't be built. Poppy has already documented it in pictures, to show how they used to be made. What good does the wood do sitting in a box?
pfinn22-Apr-09 15:56
Are there profile drawings of each and every part? Maybe a trace or photocopies might be a good idea before assembly.
pfinn22-Apr-09 15:56
Or scan them.

Gentlemen, thanks for the comments. I think these and simpleflyer's e-mail helped me. I will build and document each small step. After all, these woods are still around, and there are craftsmen who can design and shape it. It would just be cost prohibitive.

Seems a shame to cover it! It would be nice to build it with a transparent cover if it was feasible...
jgood22-Apr-09 17:27
Transparent covering? You could use Doculam - cheap, strong, and clear! See here.
poppy22-Apr-09 18:20
James, the Doculam idea is beginning to germinate. Thanks.
moostang5122-Apr-09 18:28
I love the phrase "easy build". If that's the case build two of 'em, the original covered in Doculam and an original Poppy 29er with re-cut parts. NOT!!! Poppy I'm sort of leaning toward Steve's idea. Save the original and duplicate the wood pieces. That kit appears precious.

Don't just build it, FLY IT!
John M Oshust22-Apr-09 21:59
Like building a piece of fine furniture...awesome!

hehe, I like the VA town-hall meeting on Poppy's new B-29!
