This is a Guillows series 1000 F4U-4.

Extra ribs cut to replicate full scale F4U-1D. 1/32 sheet balsa for covering.

Looking very good so far!

Like the sheeted balsa idea. Am going to try it on a T-28 Trojan after the B-24 build. Maybe a little tutorage from Poppy as far as panel line detailing installation and such, as your completed models in your hangar are showcase material.

I'm liking it! When you sheet over the frame do you reduce height of ribs to account for the extra thickness of the sheet balsa?
David Duckett23-Jun-07 15:28
Roger that! Poppy, I wonder if you would be interested in a Scalemaster kit of a 47" wingspan Stuka for control line with all the balsa in the world and only one piece has been cut out. It is a builder's kit and far more than I care to tackle. It would, perhaps, be right at home with you. This is not an offer to sell, this is an offer to give it to you because you are certainly qualified to build it and I really don't think I will. If you want it, ask James to PLEASE send me your address so details can be worked out.

Great idea and also very generous of you David. If we could get Poppy to reveal some of his secrets much like you have, I'm sure that all of us would be appreciative.

Thanks David for the great offer. I will contact James. I will share build details on builds as soon as I can compose in a concise manner. As mentioned earlier, I do not take many build pics. But I will be happy to share details. All kits are a bit different but my basics are same. Study plans carefully. Modify them as needed, and then adjust during build if necessary. It usually takes me 4-6 months to complete. But I have lots of patience and can only spend 3-4 hrs. building at a time B4 hands give out. And it may be 1-2 wks. B4 starting again.

I'm new to the model site, but not to modeling. But I think the first female here. Just a young 74 years, and I love the sheeted models I see here. Your a real artist.

Welcome Abby - you are not the only female modeller here though! I'm pleased to say that there are at least two others that I know of - novice builder and XcaliburGirl - and possibly others too. As for everyone else's age here, well they range from 9 to 70+ (I'm 41, so somewhere in the middle). Look forward to seeing some of your work. Chris.
