build coming nicely, starting to work on the cockpit.

Yes, I would say it's coming along nicely, too. Very nicely!! I would also say it looks as if you've learned the use of filler rather well. To me, it's seeing pictures like this, showing the benefits of a procedure or process that will help us all be better at this, and our pride in doing so, that keeps me checking up on you kids. This has the potential to stomp so serious ass! That's a compliment.

It looks great Sly. I'm having trouble using the filler, but I can see a mistake that I've been making by looking at yours. I've been trying to just minutely fill in a small area, but I see, that the best way to do it, is to fill not just the depression, but the area around it also. I've been trying, in my mind, how to do the rear cockpit area, how did you do it? I've watched your build, but I still don't have a solution in my mind.

SW...You can try mixing it with water to make a slurry then painting it on. Sand, and paint again if needed.

John, thanks for the tip. I just tried it. I'll let you know the results.

hi sweet, first i temp installed that canopy to make note where the concaved area was situated, then fill the area with 1.5 mm balsa to match. After that i used strips of balsa to fill that gaps, then mirco fill it all. Sand to make the final fitting of the canopy snug. The key is to not make the gaps between the balsa to large or the mircofill will have a hard time staying put when the final sanding is carried out..

Hey Sly... looks really great, very smooth. Was that one solid sheet of balsa on the wing or did you have to glue two parts together?
sweetwillie12-Feb-08 10:09
Thanks for the info, Sly, I'll try it. Stay tuned.

hey jedi. that is actually 3 pieces of balsa put together, filled and sanded. Hope the painting goes well....
