I am afraid that all the video games and electronic gadgetry available to kids nowadays may make our hobby a lost art. I have 2 15 and 1 8 yr. old grandsons, and 11 nephews, none of which are the least bit interested in building models of any kind. When I visit my hobby shops today I see more Ready built planes, cars and boats and fewer models. Even the large R/C models are going to ARF's. Sad!

Thanks for your kind words Poppy. Ben shares my love for avaition and I hope will follow in Dad's footsteps and keep on building when he is older, but you are right you do not need to be a craftsman anymore to have fun toys. I must admit though I have not yet seen any ARF's even half as good as the works presented here at the VA.

That is one gorgeous model! It seems that most in the newer generations, and many in the older ones, spend so much time being entertained and staying "connected" that they can't make the time to actually build anything. Shop classes are not mandatory in schools, if they are even offered, so there is no exposure to and little respect for manual skills. Instant gratification is the norm. These days, most women have no respect for a man who can actually do something, only for a man who can pay to have it done. (Wait a second! Is that any different from the way it has always been?) Anyway, the situation does not bode well for our hobby or our nation.

"These days, most women have no respect for a man who can actually do something, only for a man who can pay to have it done. (Wait a second! Is that any different from the way it has always been?)" Too bad this comment couldn't have been entered in boldface type.

I would beg to differ on the comment regarding women having no respect for a man whom can actually do. Just the opposite where I live. Having to pay some to do it for you, your considered a wimp boy. Having a man whom can do it himself is very respected by a women. Sad to hear your situation.
