Jedi, thank you. I usually use guillows silkspan - I buy it from the hobby shop near my house. It looks great and is strong, but it was taking me about 4 coats of thinned dope to seal it, and even then there were still pinholes showing through. I tried esaki on this kit. The whole issue was in doubt and I almost stripped it all off and went with silkspan again. There are dozens of covering tips and ideas on the Pensacola Free Flight Team website - articles link here: http://pensacolafreeflight.org/pageDisplay.jsp?pageid=13152 Some of the articles were of great help in getting the covering on this reasonably tight.

I'll paint it the standard RLM 74, 75, 76 mix. I have not decided about the extra markings though. There are just so many good examples out there. Any suggestions? Maybe a JG-1 bird with the eagle decal on the side...

Really looking good, have you decided on a color scheme yet?

Yes it is!

Coming together nicely,

Chris: 1, Guillows plastic, 0. I had to resort to some uh, unorthodox methods.

You need a real good jig to glue 3 blades equally on to a spinner. Try it on clay.

Thanks. It is LOOKING GOOD!!

The prop is two peck 5 inchers Gorilla Glue'ed together. It looks good from here, but up close, all three blades are at slightly different pitches. Anyone out there know how to make a good, flying three blader? As for weight - I have no idea, but the kit wood was good quality, light wood and the stringers are very light. I don't want to say "contest grade" because I'm not sure what that really means, but they are really light. I usually cover with silkspan, but I'm doing this one with esaki. I'll try and wrangle up a postal scale - maybe the wife has one.

What would you guess the weight to be at this point? Very nice three bladed prop. Did you make it?

The kit is starting to look like a Wurger.

I have removed all the wood I think I can.

I agree!! It has some beautiful lines and I see them already developing in your model.

I know the feeling -- good luck with the project.

I'm trying to fly this one. I dremeled out as much wood as I can (anyone who has built these 500 series knows there is alot of extra wood) and substituted the Guillows stringers for some really light 1/16th stringers I bought at the local hobby shop.

Here we go again. This is the second time I have built this kit in 6 months. I just can't get enough of the Wurger's perfect proportions.

Correction - the one in the foreground is an 8" gun.

All I can tell you about this thing is that it was made at the Naval Gun Factory in Watervliet NY in 1943. Amazing, isn't it?
