I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

what a great project this is - and you're making good headway with it Bob. It's really shaping up nicely - pun intended

The green paint was put on to high-light the areas that still need filling and or leveling. I have bought some 1/16" clear plastic, and I hope to make that curved screen sometime soon.

I have to say that this build is not a DD beauty - but I'm enjoying the hit &miss method that I'm taking. The one big thing that has come out of this project is that there are no "true" plans of the Q6 Petrel to be found on the internet! Every one that I found differed from each other, and if you compare them to photographs of the real thing you find that a huge amount of guesswork has been done. Using the small scale plan that I found (back in the 60's in the UK) has given me some problems too when I look at the real Q6 pics that are public domain.

It's very "Heath Robinson" but I hope that it will look OK when filled, rubbed down, covered and finally painted.

Is coming along well. Looks good

Make that DU-BRO. https://www.dubro.com/collections/hinges

Bob, on the hinges you might check out Dubros products. They make a thin nylon hinge that might work. I used them on my P-40 for the gear doors and the cooling flaps and on the PT-17. The PT-17 pics show them the best.

I use the Sherman Williams too. Same process as edtherenderman, except I don't always use the auto sanding primer. Although it really does improve the finish.

Spackle is my filler of choice too for all the reasons stated. I follow a slightly different process. I fill and sand until I have the finish I want, then I cover with tissue and dope. Then I follow up with auto sanding primer which I wet sand, then regular primer and paint. That's how I got the glass finish on the XP-67. Lots of sanding, but the results speak for themselves.

Hopefully it will be HW, if I can make or find some mini hinges!

Hey Bob - is that cabin door functional?
heywooood, Comment for image # 4325216 Jun 21 07:28
Spackle is what I use for this as well. DD recommended the Sherwin Williams shrink-free stuff so that’s what I generally use. With a few top coats of Deluxe Sand N Seal to harden, seal, and microfill the surface of the model.

Thank you chaps! Don, the skin is generally 3/32" with some difficult areas being 1/8" or even 1/4" - lots of sanding down and smoothing off going on. And a few small gaps appear, from somewhere, from time to time! I have used (as an experiment) household "spackle" as a filler, it is much easier to sand down than the the model filler that I have.

That is sure looking good. How thick is the balsa skin?

Looking great, Dad!
