David, mind if I piece together a few How To's from your techniques for the new section? |

For roring40: This is the PBY build ready for covering. Click on the "build thread" and the covering sequence is next and it looks as if I've 'Covered" (sorry) everything. If this doesn't answer your questions, fire away and I'll see what else is on here. I've also written about painting with acrylics, which has a section about covering, on the www.guillows.com builders forum. If you're not a member, perhaps someone can link it for you since I don't have a clue how it's done. The Berkeley Fairchild 24 in my hanger is another good example of covering wet. |

...and I'll be there. The memorial is to the members of our group who were killed in Viet Nam and was paid for by the members of the website. This is my contribution. |

Exactly the same but the balsa would need to be thoroughly sealed first. See Poppy's models on here for the way he does it. |

Dave . How would you paint this if it had been covered in Balsa instead of fibre?

Now this is really nice. I've only just started on this web site, seen some really nice models. And some museum quality work, this being one. |

It's called lightweight filler, made by Hobbico, and available in white and balsa color. You can find basically the same stuff at paint stores. It's used to fill holes in the wall before painting. |

Remind me what was the filler you used when working with the plastics on the landing gear. I remember a note somewhere about how you fill the halves with something, then it makes it easier to assemble them later into one piece. |

Thanks! The short answer is brushed acrylics over doped surfaces. I'll post a much longer answer on the Guillow site under "Painting with acrylics." |

Wing is glued on and the floats attached to the wings. The paper pieces are the covers for the landing gear and the parts for the bombs. I skipped the bombs. |

Painting the second coat in blue. You can see one of the main reasons for using acrylic paint: it thins with and cleans with water, has no smell, and you control the color. |

First coat is light gray. |

Everything covered. The elevators, ailerons, and rudder are covered with the paper supplied according to the plans. It's a standard part of a Guillow kit but if you have the time add the extra rib-lets and cover with silkspan. It is the only are on the pl |
