My best balsa laminated hand carved (mostly sanded) prop - a German "Axial" prop. I made the prop carving block out of 13 layers of 1/32" balsa sheet planks.

No, any scientific proof?

DD - good question. I went and pulled the white cardstock used for the MG cooling jackets out of the kit sleeve. It is 0.007" thick and I can't see any laser burned edges at all, even with a magnifying glass - maybe because it is so thin... It was a nice feature to have the cooling jackets already made in the kit, as I don't have any left over speakers to cut up, and screen mesh doesn't look right. The cylinder caps, the cylinder sleeves and the bottom front fuse cover were all laser cut on this sheet. Additionally, the cylinder sleeves were also laser cut etched with very fine lines to represent cooling fins - another neat feature. This kit is made light as it is built for free flight rubber power, but I like it on the shelf... :*) I think Dave Cowell told me, the only way to get rid of the burned brown edges of balsa that is laser cut, is to laser cut over glass. Have you heard that David?

Laser cut card stock? Seems a bit of overkill! Are the edges brown?

I forgot to mention - this kit comes with laser cut wood machine guns and laser cut, white, card stock cooling jackets for the guns.

However which way you look at it, the model is beautiful. Great job! Very nice subject to choose rather than the more common ones we so often see.

Some of the tissue on the fuse came out so badly wrinkled, I had to cut out 4 panel squares for patching. It was a good thing that I had glued the edges of all the formers and longerons to the Metallic Silver tissue - it made it easy to cut out, and easy to glue on, the new panel section patches.

First try at Metallic Silver tissue. It was cutting tin foil with scissors. I had an inkling that it would not shrink well, or at all.

I cut out and made my own decals out of gloss "Black" and outllined with "Aluminum" adhesive backed (peel 'n stick) "Trim Sheets" from Top Flite - sheets are 5" X 36". They are 9.5 thou thick, of which the backing peel is 6.0 thou, leaving a 3.5 thou thick decal to stick on. I cut out paper templates of the wing and fuse sections, inked on marks to lline up with ribs and formers, cut out the holes in the paper template a little larger than tha actual decal size, and then used masking tape to hold the paper template on the wing and fuse, for perfect positioning of the decal.

This is a really great kit. My first fuselage girder frame construction kit. It has a parts ID sheet - no printing on the parts, which is how I like it - no sanding.

The Fuselage was well rounded and quite streamlined.

Year introduced - April 1918 - only 10 planes made it to the front, then the war ended, and it lapsed into obscurity, but a very beautiful plane nonetheless.
