finally back to work on the Raiden. Papering is done except for the lower fuselage surfaces and with only minor problems to solve around the nose. |

I'm starting to fill with pieces around to cockpit and nose ala DD. It sure makes working in these areas much easier. Sure got a lot of dust to make. |

Assemblies are tacked together to see what it looks like. |

I will. On the "Random Images" (don't know who, sorry) some builder made his own. By snipping the blade they had made different widths. I tried a stack-up of .020" inch diamond cut-off wheels with a Delrin depth-stop disc (I made a few for different depths) for use with a "Dremel" tool. Worked good as long as you don't wiggle (big, fat slot faster than you can blink an eye!) and I had clearance issues with the Dremel tool on "Non-Curved" (L.E & T.E) items. As always, the simpler, the better. But hey, I tried! |

Phil, be sure to get the razor blade holder, it was a godsend when I cut out and notched the Raiden parts. |

Thanks for the info. They definately look fragile. and thanks for the parts layout image. Haven't done a printwood model yet and still not too sure.Lots of cutting and notching, that's for sure. |

I use cooking parchment on a roll. As far as Diels kit is concerned they are made for flying and are very light construction and parts break very easily. |

Jerry, I think it was you who preffered building on Parchment paper. Looks like it here. Would that be of the food prep variety? Also looks like it came off a roll. It does come in sheets too, I beleive. I'll be watching this build closely because I'm thinking of puchasing a Diels kit soon as well. Thanks. Phil |

Making a copy of the plans so they can be cut into smaller more easily worked pieces. |

Lots of parts to cut, but it went quickly, very good wood. |

You are right it looks like a #11 in the picture, but it is not, it is a #2 knife with a #2 blade. I should have photographed the #11 along side. |

Not only does it work extremely well but it only cost a $1.19 my local independant hardware, who sells them to remove paint from glass. |

The single edge blade is smaller and seems to stay sharper far longer than an exacto blade with much less tearing of the balsa former. |

I've been using a single edge razor blade holder to cut notches into the formers. It hold the blade firm and allows you to cut a notch quickly and cleanly. |

Jerry's absolutely right. In addition to that, the decals look really great but are really flimsy. These kits are designed to fly and are built very light which means the possibility of breaking something during construction is high. I do like the kits in spite of all that because they are very close to scale, much more so than some Guillows kits which have been mentioned before. I also like that they are all in the same scale. I will require replacement canopies for both of my new Diels kits since both are flawed but I'm fairly sure they will arrive without a hassle. I'm picky about canopies. |

Duh...#11 is what I use. It says so right on the box! |
