Next is to fit the 8 halves of the engine nacelles onto this structure.

The extra wood is where the two plastic halves meet.

An unexpected bonus is being able to use the spares as patterns in the fitting of these pieces. Leo, I agree that there shouldn't be any flaws in a kit that costs this much but since there are and since Guillows will replace any defective part, you'll miss quite a rewarding modeling experience if you pass on it because of something that can easily be corrected. Guillows responds best if you call them and if that's impractical from The Netherlands, I'll be glad to do it for you.

The clear plastic (x 2) I ordered a replacement because the nose piece is "cloudy" and the new sheet was promptly sent without charge. The new sheet has a flaw in the cockpit section. All other parts are acceptable.

The white plastic

And some people had ruffled feathers when I complained about Guillows and their quality control!

That is so disheartening to hear. When you pay 70-80$ for a kit, one would expect decent parts. I feel reluctant to buy one now. Great build by the way, very entertaining with the off-line shots.

Smooooooth...I guess it takes an Air Force vet to construct the perfect plane skeleton. Beautiful construction, DD. That little sheeted elevator tab on the tail feather is a slick idea. Should make panel and seperations lines that much easier to install. Ingenious.

Thanks, guys. RodN, I suggest you check all the parts of the clear piece to insure they are as free from blemish as possible. I CALLED Guillows as soon as I opened the kit cause the front clear piece was a mess. They promptly sent a replacement but the canopy portion of it has a big crease in it and the front piece, while much better, still has a flaw which looks like a hair was in the molding process. The lady told me the clear plastic comes off a big roll. I would also suggest you check all the white plastic pieces, as well. Some of the formers in my kit were "die crushed" due to soft wood but that's not important to me since it's all solid now, anyway.

The final shaping of the leading edge requires a gentle touch with the large sander to keep it straight and then some light touch-ups with finer sandpaper.

That's why someone called it "The Big A-- Bird". Super craftsmanship, DD.

Fantastic David, you have inspired me, I have just rushed out and bought this kit. What a monster!!!!

Yummy!!

It was cut out and replaced with the 3/32" rudder on which the ribs are glued. It's the same procedure as the elevators.

Is C4 covered with some sheet balsa or did you cut it out and replaced with a new rudder?

Ready for final shaping and sanding
