Hey Ken, thanks for viewing the channel. The trick with spray paint is to use either the base coat or clear - then spray the trim coat. The problem here is limited availability. I’m running out of paint and it’s getting harder to get. I thank you for the suggestion and will definitely use the clear coat once I’m restocked. I have a follow on video that includes an unexpected coincidence |

Really looking good. I was watching your video when you took the masking off the pants and have a suggestion which may or may not work. I learned from DD that when painting with a brush you use the dry brush method on the initial application of paint with the mask. This small amount of paint seals the tape and surface. Something about the moisture causes the tape to bond to the surface. Since this probably would not work with the spray paint I would suggest you first spray a coat of white to bond the tape. After that the red would hopefully not bleed through. Little bit late but you might try on the next build. |

Thanks - it’s mostly sanding...followed by more sanding - and then sanding sanding sanding..and so on. I end up with something akin to pitcher’s elbow when I’m done..lol |

Update: got an email from Callie today and she is going to send the adjusted ‘gilmore’ decals for the fuselage to me soonest and at no cost to me. I have not asked her for the cowling decals to be redone as that problem is due more to my inferior skills than anything else. I’m going to try to paint the cowling graphics myself. Nothing to lose since i was going to omit the cowling unless I could replicate it perfectly.. |

I would probably buy a 6’ wingspan electric rc version of this airplane if I could find one that was an ARF.. |

Thanks Ed. I have an update on the cowl. I was able to strip it down and resurface it - I have it back to the white primer and ready to apply color. Tomorrow I’ll get the ‘racing white’ onto it and then I think I’ll try just masking and brush painting it or spraying on the last of the red and brushing on the marigold stripes. I hope it works - I really like the look of this cowling on the real deal! |

I agree 100% - so much of the Golden Age of flight is epic.
Sadly the cowling effort I made was subpar and I’ll be sanding it down. Fortunately I have plenty of time to rework it as I have run short on red paint and two of the Callie Graphics decals need to be reproduced. |

As I suspected the cowling decals didn’t fit..they were peeled off along with half of the paint - so I’ll be sanding it down and redoing it. I’ll need to either find or mix a suitable match for the gold color but should be able to make it right eventually...maybe. Also the two sets of ‘Gilmore’ lettering for the fuselage sides are too big and do not fit into the allotted space. I have contacted Callie for replacements (reduced roughly 25%) but will likely be waiting a month or more. No problem as they can be applied whenever. |

Thanks Robert and Don - The airplane design is just a wonder and Dumas have really made every effort to capture the shape of it and make it easy for the builder to manage |
