Thanks guys - I appreciate the replies. Currently it hangs with the cowling removed. I think I agree (also the cowling could have turned out a bit better than it did...c'est la guerre

I agree with edbecky. If I spent that much time and effort on the engine I'd want it seen and appreciated. If the engine had turned out not-as-imagined you could have hidden it under that beautiful cowling and no one would have noticed when the rest of the model is as eye-catching as this one.

It looks great both ways but without we can see the detail you put into the engine.

Thank you, biplaneguy - the project was a real pleasure to work on. I am wondering if folks have a preference with this aircraft - do you like the look of the Air Express with the cowling, or without it..?

Wow! That is beautiful! Great job!

I dunno, Ed - the local museum to me is the San Diego Air & Space Museum and they have a very high standard. It would be a heartwarming surprise for me if they would even entertain the idea. I would just give it to them if I thought they would display it..they'd have to put up with me hanging around now and then of course..lol but I certainly appreciate your appraisal of the model. Thank You

All I can say is to echo Don. WOW! Are you planning to sell this to a museum? Seems like the quality is high enough! And a topic not many people try. Just outstanding.

thank you hijitman and Don - I appreciate your enthusiasm for the Air Express project and the result. I learned a lot about this Lockheed jewel along the way and have developed a profound regard for the entire Vega series of aircraft. A Golden Age cornerstone for sure

Thank You, Robert - I assumed it was meant as a compliment but one never knows for certain. You place me in good company - I have aspired to reach the DD level of artistry and ability but of course he keeps raising the bar..lol

Following this build on other forums. This is an absolute tour de force!

Wow!!!

I would not ask you to part with this model HW - it was simply a statement about its intrinsic value - it really is a work of art at the DD level.

Fantastic job - Superb model - how much do you want for it?

Thank you Mr Duckett - the cowling turned out OK. I had to color match the gold with my acrylics where the stripe goes around the top and bottom of the engine opening. The plane itself does look better with the bonnet on it.

Yes!! Amazing in all aspects!

I'll try that when I have the cowling finished and mounted to the Air Express, thank you Dave that would be based on the 30" wingspan then..got it

With a painting they say to be at least twice the distance away from it as the longest side to fully see it. With this model that would mean be 5' away. The further away from it, the more of it will be seen. It's also a good idea to photograph it against a background that does not intrude on the model. That is, clean.

I appreciate the positive feedback, Ed and Robert - I was inspired as usual by the work I see here at VA especially, and by the stories and exploits of this amazing Lockheed design and her pilots
