I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

The Druine Turbulent rebuild/redesign was a success. On only 1/2 winds (about 400 turns), this little sucker took off straight up and circled, ending up on my roof. 1st time for THAT experience. I think with full winds, I could easily get over a minute of flight out of it outdoors.

Makes my heart piter pater!Find a patch of tall grass for testing

Also added a 1/32" sheet ply to the nose, to help prevent the nose plug from beating up the hole.

new graphics, and most important: NO PAINT on the tail!!! I've learned my lesson on that one...

Here it is, back together! By doing the hollow tail feathers, I was able to take out over 3 grams of clay out of the nose. Test flights soon!

Nice work on the tail feathers. Shame about the crash, but it'll be better after the rebuild. Let us know how much weight it saved.

This is the result of rudder failure at full speed shortly after launch. I learned that I was not winding my rubber motors properly, and now I'm getting better power and speed out of the plane. I think the rudder was damaged on the previous flight when it flew into a tree at a good clip. I checked it over but missed the crack in the rudder. Oh well. It gave me a chance to replace the solid tail feathers with lighter ones of my own design. Now I'll be able to take some nose weight out of it so it'll be going even FASTER when it crashed next time!!!

here is a picture of the tabs I've added to the Druine that transformed it. Once I did these tabs, it flies stable and circles well.

I'll get my wife to help me film it one evening.

Very cool, scirocco. You'll have to get some video of it flying, I'd love to see it. Have to try mine again someday too.

I've worked on this one, made the landing gear removable to save weight and drag. Also added some clear acetate trim tabs on the rudder and stablizer to get it turning left and level. I now have it flying two complete circles of my front yard on 500 turns of 1/8" FIA, about 15 seconds-20 seconds. With a larger motor, I think I could get it up to 30 seconds. I'd be happy with that!

AUW including prop & motor is 18.6g...a little heavy for a peanut I guess.

Well, after fine tuning the thrust block I got in a few flights with some larger rubber. There's a fine line between "nice flight" and stall/spin/crash apparently. I think it's because of the weight, so for next time I've learned that for flying models to keep them unpainted/lighter. This one will be retired to display before I destroy it!

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll try mine on balsa pointers and see how it balances. Will let you know...

The plane flies OK, but it's a little underpowered with the kit rubber. It's a little heavy I think (I added paint) so I may add an additional strand of 1/8" or go up to a single loop of 3/16" for a little more horsepower.

AUW is around 12 grams...I made a mistake and put too much paint on the tail section I think. I balanced it using balsa pointers at the wingtips, adding weight to the nose until it balanced at the point indicated on the plans. The removable thrust button gave me good access to glue additional lead in the nose section.

What was the weight of yours? And did you have to add weight on the nose? How did you balance it, just let it balance on the finger tips as per the plan? Mine still hasn't flown very well yet.

no pictures yet, but did get a couple of lovely flights off this evening in the yard. Still too windy really to give it full winds and let 'er rip though...don't want to lose it in the trees!

Very interested to hear how it goes!

I also balsa sheeted in the bottom of the cowl instead of using tissue, for strength.
