I've listed this Berkeley Cessna 180 on eBay if anyone's interested.

May I also offer my two cents worth? I posted a complete S.E. 5 build thread sometime last year. It was DD who inspired me by posting Meku's S.E. 5 model pictures. I took one look at the picture and knew, absolutely knew DD was offering me a chance to see if I could match Meku's skills. I like to think I came close. The point here was to try to push our skills to achieve what might otherwise be considered impossible or judging ourselves not worthy of such talent. Incidentally, I contacted Meku directly and we became very good friends, and he offered many tips during my build. Like DD, I too, build models mostly for display and admire those who can build their works of art and have the courage to fly them. I've seen many of DD's works and all have that unique "DD's" style that distinguishes him from other modelers. Not to say his style is better or worst, but call it his "signature" if you will. I'm still in awe of his talents and look forward to watching more of his builds (hint, hint). Skye

Outstanding work - the extra stringers make a world of different smoothing out the skin/tissue contours - very realistic!

Thank you!

David, I definitely admire your building......Think about it, you take tissue, balsa sticks, glue and produce a realistic looking model. Not too many people have the skills to accomplish that task, that's why most people stick with plastics. You definitely have an awesome talent.

Scigs30: Oh no! That's for folks with your skills and those are not mine. I've always admired anyone who could actually get one of these Guillow kits to fly and this one certainly seems as if it would. I would certainly suggest your tutorial on building your Cub, which is on the Guillows home page, to everyone who has the least bit of interest in building and flying these kits. Seeing that something can be done better than I'm doing it always inspires me. Actually all my models except the Dornier 335 are covered with heavy grade silkspan and I don't think they dislike them at all. It would be a bit presumptious of me to expect all my Guillows models to be used, especially when there are so many really nice builds around. And it's certainly true that I don't stick to their color scheme all the time but I see no reason to if I don't care for it.

Very nice work on this!

I would assume Guillows doesn't like the fact they aren't tissued, so they can't really use them in promotional pictures, because that's not how they are sold.

David, Have you built Guillows kits to fly? If so did you have to modify them?
David Duckett, Comment for image # 208827 Apr 09 10:31
Thanks!!! Where do I send the check? I don't think Guillows agrees, this is the only one of my models they use. Well, they do use a shot of my DC -3's landing gear on their parts listing if that counts. It might surprise you but this simple little plane is one of my favorites.

David Duckett, Image # 208824 Sep 06 14:47

The color is light gray with silver mixed in on top of many coats of light gray.
David Duckett, Image # 208724 Sep 06 14:44

Tailwheel is one-piece balsa, decals on wing are from the kit.
David Duckett, Image # 208624 Sep 06 14:42

Paint scheme as per plans. All the red, except the prop, is paint.

I always cover with a silkspan which is quite a bit heavier than that in the kit. I believe there are several "grades", thicknesses, and I like the heavier stuff cause it's much stronger and easier to handle plus it doesn't require as many coats of dope to seal. I usually give the covered frames two coats of clear dope with a light sanding between and then they start getting shiny and that means they are ready to paint.
