Finally got my 403 Covered. The wing and tail feathers came OK. The fuselage has a few minor problems. I used the tissue that came with the kit. Lets hope that the dope will take out the minor flaws.

Sand, sand, and more sanding. This is Guillows Series 403.

I am using a plane to shape the Leading edge. It is fast and fairly accurate.

500 series? it's a 400 isn't it?

That's a pretty big plane to shape those leading edges.

Lof of weight. I replaced the Guillow stringers with some contest stringers. Now it is sand sand and sand.

Nice work.

Some cosmetic work to do, but it is finished. This will be for display only. The roundels on the fuselage were very uneven, consequently I cut off the yellow. I used electric tape to simulate panel lines.

Gotta sand the bottom
NiteSeer, Image # 1812828 May 10 11:08

I used a Sky Grey for the bottom fuselage.

Finished with my camouflage and now it is time to add the final details.

Thanks for the tips. Food for thought.

These kits are fun builds, the fuselage design on these is not too bad as far as weight goes. The heaviest part is the wing, I think it is designed for gas power. As you are finding out punching holes is time consuming. On a bird this big it really does not make too much of a difference. Adding the lighter stringers helps. Replace the leading edge with light balsa and skip adding ever other rib, and don't use all the spars, that should also help. The other part that makes this series heavy is all the plastic. Not much you can do about that. So far, great build can't wait to see her done.

Yes, I am going drill a lot of holes in the ribs, leading and trailing edge. And sand, sand, sand.
