I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

I'll cuss for you a couple of times. The covering job looks good. You know, a side benefit of dope is the great odor! :)

They say it was applied to heavy, 2.5m is recommended. Don't know about you, I was bairly misting it on. This stuff doesn't flow at all. Where it hits it sticks. But it's Eco-friendly, B.S....... Give me good old Nitrate and Butyrate!

That's got to be somewhat frustrating. Does the manufacturer have anything to say?

The least bit of a wet sprayed coat and it does this and won't sand out,

The "Boss" decided to try a new covering system. Stewart Systems makes a water borne system. I've used Randolph, Stits, SuperFlite and Airtec. This "Crap " is a waste of time and money. I've had so many problems with this material I may rip it off and start over. The only good thing is that it cleans up with water.

Hello to everyone. While you have been working on the little ones I've been working on the big ones. During an Annual inspection we found that Mice had chewed into the rear spars of this "47" Chief so much that the spars have to be replaced. The tail feathers were in bad shape also.

James, you still around? I wanted to post pictures of my Night Twester but there are loading problems.

Oh yah, the model, rudder and the left side cureing. It will be red with blue trim like the full scale.

Found some Douglass Furr ripped into 1/4" x3/4" strips for stringers. Been too cold, Spring has arrived I think....

The original drawings call out 3 ply plywood. Since it was built to CAR standards we're using good grade 3 ply. I am using birch ply where the stringers are attached (gussets). A friend had some good Douglas Fir planks which he ripped to 3/4" x 1/4" strips. Have enough for all the stringers.

Birch plywood?
Huey V77, Image # 3872301 Jun 17 19:22

Have a way to go. Stell have to align the stringers.

Replacing the old wood.

Speaking of "BARN FINDS" - the boys restoring the Mosquito Bomber at the Historic Hangar at Windsor, Ontario Airport, found two supercharged V-12 Rolls Royce Merlin 1,480 hp engines, that were never started, and still in the crates, in a barn on a farm in Northern Saskatchewan Province, Canada, for $10,000 each.

I'm posting these pictures so people can see what a full scale airplane looks like. I have many pictures of the airframe to remind me where things go. the material used at that time was far inferior to what we have today. The workmanship was very lacking. Money was tight and they wanted to make it some how.

Great project! Anticipating more pictures as your restoration progresses.

Wow, a true "barn-find"! I dreamed as a kid of finding an old Jenny, WACO, or Stearman sitting pristine under a tarp somewhere in the midwest and flying it back to Hawaii. I saw no problem with that at the time.

Oh, the wings are bare and ready to cover.

It's a 1940 Aeronca 50F Chief. 3 of us purchased it for $2000. It was built here in Ohio and was converted from a Franklin 50 hp to a 65 Continental, and used as a demo. It was purchased and lived in Brooklyn New York until a friend bought it from the family. It was stored in their basement. We bought it from a friend who had it in his barn. He realized he would never restore it, not having the know how. I'm an A&P, and my partner is an IA. I've recovered several planes so this is up my alley. The only problem is there are no parts available. Fortunately we have the know how. The engine is in excellent condition . The Chief will mare a good bug smasher.
