Creosotewind | Scratch Built Solid Models | Parked | 14-Jun-14 19:38 | | Views : 612 | The museum was getting anxious so I got it prepped to hang without some of the hardware. Ted was helping me by turning some bombs on his lathe. |
Creosotewind | Scratch Built Solid Models | Parked | 14-Jun-14 19:36 | | Views : 546 | I apologize for hogging the site, but I'm cleaning files and getting ready for a new build. James, could you add an ARF F-16 to the list? Thanks. |
Creosotewind | Scratch Built Solid Models | Parked | 14-Jun-14 19:35 | | Views : 506 | No room on the couch (davenport) to sit down. You can bet I did not walk through the house with it assembled. I could barely handle the 3' wingspan of the Piper Cub without hitting something. Good thing I'm not a pilot. |

Creosotewind | Scratch Built Solid Models | Parked | 14-Jun-14 19:31 | | Views : 571 | The basic structure is from the model. I cut out the small windows and filled them with clear plastic, probably from some of those packages that are impossible to open without a nuclear device. I made the reflector from mirror paper from the art store. It took a while to figure out the shape, but it seems to look ok. The base is from that PVC box I cut apart. The slots slide over the wooden frame in the fuselage. |

Creosotewind | Scratch Built Solid Models | Parked | 14-Jun-14 19:27 | | Views : 461 | Paint for the rocket rails. Access panels are card stock (again). I tried using aluminum tape, but it was too thin and didn't show well under the paint. |
Creosotewind | Scratch Built Solid Models | Parked | 14-Jun-14 19:25 | | Views : 502 | For a first effort it was ok, a noble try. But compared to Ted's work, it paled in comparison. |
Creosotewind | Scratch Built Solid Models | Parked | 14-Jun-14 19:24 | | Views : 500 | ...and filled the voids with florist's foam. Cut and sanded to get the shape I wanted. Then I filled with light spackle, sealed with primer and then painted. |
Creosotewind | Scratch Built Solid Models | Parked | 14-Jun-14 19:22 | | Views : 561 | The model didn't come with a tail cone. I tried to find something off the shelf, but no luck. I asked Freeway Flyer (Ted) if he could make one on his lathe (what modeler on this site has he not assisted?) In the interim, I tried something new for me, that I found on a paper modeler's site. |
