Today was about more than flying the Tyro as Orville here wanted to see my progress on the Aero-Star and the conversion to electric. He got out of flying in WW2 when someone stole his C/L plane off his rack but has picked it up again at the age of 87.

The power train is nearly finished. The battery packs are 3S2P of 2300 mAh A123 cells with a CC BEC across just one of the packs. Only problem is even with the disconnect removed the pack on the left is powering the ESC by way of the BEC somehow.

The plane is a little blurry, but that sure is a nice backdrop.

It was cold, windy, and there was a slight mist from time to time, but that did not stop us all from having fun.

Near ground there was a gentle breeze down the runway, but about 30' up there was a strong wind pretty much cross runway. Moving between these two layers of air was very exciting and kept me on my toes. I failed today as the Tyro came home in one piece.

View of the right wing before the sheeting goes on. The spars are 1/4" sq. spruce but everything else is balsa. It's almost embarrassing to admit this, but other than trimming a few of the webs and one sheet to fit, I haven't had to sand or cut anything.

I was late getting to the field and only got in about 45 minutes of touch and goes before the 9am crowd started showing up. Here three other club members are practicing for the upcoming pylon racing with electric powered P-51s made of EPP... *shudder*.

I seem to be popular with the ladies.

The left wing is nearly finished. At just under 5 ounces it is lighter than I thought it would be. Very little of what you see required any cutting or sanding, it's a lot easier than what I am used to a "kit" being.

Today's mail brought the rest of the Aero-Star power plant minus the prop. E-Flite Power 90, CC HV-85, CC BEC, and 2300 mAh A123 cells to be made into two 3S2P packs.

One of the locals showed up to watch, I bet John O's trigger finger is itching.
