Some of us are young enough to enjoy video games and old enough to enjoy working with our hands too. Almost done fabricating the motor mount.

Here you can see the brass insert and the hole where the dowel goes. I used orderless thin CA on the brass insert so I will find out in a few hours if it effects me like normal CA.

As promised, nylon wing bolt in front and wood dowel in the rear. I just used the dowel that was supplied in the kit for the rubber motor.

Sadly, the D-7 was not flown. I hear it was for sale but I'd hate to buy it when I could build a kit or from plans. I did get the Aero-Star up a few times and it handled the winds much better than the Tyro did yesterday morning.

Today was the club warbird rally but attendance was a little low due to double booking with a booth for an annual event put on by the city. Fortunately a few sould braved the strong winds and went aloft.

Poor man's wing incidence gage, looks like I am a few degrees positive. Stringers gave significant strength and stiffness to the wing, more so than the wing of my MM Hellcat which uses a main spar with webbing.

Cable moves 1/8" in each direction and ailerons are free to move up to 5/8" in each direction. That means I want to size the aileron horn to give me a 4:1 or 5:1 movement ratio. Nylon wing bolt and brass insert will attach the wing LE to the fuselage.

Progress is slow but I enjoy the engineering challenges, though on this build I am copying the aileron setup of the Molt Hellcat. I think I will try to use the small Dubro hinges shown in the previous photo, now to do the right side.

The left aileron is almost done. I didn't have any triangular stock for the front edge of the ailerons so I carved down some of the extra square stock from the wing LE. These small hinges just might work if I shorten them a bit. The motor arrived today.

The wing has a lot of ribs, 1.25" between centers. There is no spar like with the Aero Star or my Molt Models kits so I guess lots of ribs and stringers is how they get strength. I want the ailerons exactly to scale but the ribs are at the wrong angle.

The kit supplied leading edges weighed 4.3 grams and 8 grams each. The high weight was not the issue so much as the imbalance it would have created. The LHS came to the rescue with some good wood. Also, my tailwheel versus the kit's vinyl wheel.
