Canadian Northern Flight # 5280. Outbound from New Orleans to Hudson Bay and points North. Spring must be here.

Test fit on the plane. Not bad if I say so myself. Note to self: CA doesn't stick well to the Coke bottle plastic, use 5-56 canopy glue.

Not as deep as John O's workbench. After about four tries at trying to get the bent lams into the correct place, (upper right of picture), I had a"Duh" moment and realised that it would be better to set the bows on the canopy base plate, then sand them to fit the canaopy. That worked much better. I filled in the aft canopy fairing with Duram's water putty as I will need to drill some holes in it for some sort of fittings that are evident on the pictures of that area.

Starting to figure out how to do the canopy. Coke bottle canopy and 1/32" Bass laminated over forms that were lifted off of the canopy master. I used soft Plumbers solder to duplicate the the cross-sections to transfer to my bending forms. Soaked the Bass in warm water for about 10 minutes, clamped them to the forms then popped them into the oven at 180 deg. F for about 20 minutes to dry out the bass. Worked great.

I recall seeing a sign in West Texas that said something to the effect of "Do not run over Armadillos to prevent damage to vehicles".

I now have all of teh L/G doors constructed but are still figuring out the hinges and actuators. BOuncing around between items, I also now ready to start on the cockpit with the instruments printed out and teh Inst. panel picture test having been test-fit for the proper size. Off-camera, I have some laminated bows for the canopy drying on their forms.

Decals finally applied, definently helped to get the right amount of fixative on the decals.

ANd how is my day going? Glad that you asked. First time to make make my own decals using Testors decal paper: Apparently I did not lay a heavy enough coat of fixative over the decals. TIghtened sphincter, dry mouth, etc. I found that laying a piece of paper towel saturated with white vinegar over the decal softened it enough to gently peel the remenants off with out damaging anything. Whew. Now I will print up some new decals and be sure to spray enough fixative on them.

Another view. I handfiled and set the teeth on the plate to 16 TPI (crosscut). This project was just about as finiky as building a model. Anymore I need a LED headlamp and 2.50 glasses to keep the saw teeth in focus.
