Finally warm enough to get back into my workshop and get the P-40 up on to it's legs.

Winter is nearly over here so time to get back in the workshop. I have re-designed the postionable landing gear legs for the Kittyhawk using a 'bunny ears' tv aerial. They allow the gear to retract up and down and then turn through 90 degrees.

Here's another beauty being build nearby - which I understand will be the worlds only airworthy Avro Anson when it's finished.

As Willie's Mossie is topical I thought I'd show you a shot of a eccentric old chaps shed which is quite close to me here in Nelson, New Zealand. What we are looking at is an RNZAF Mosquito, utterly complete and rumoured to have only 60 hours total flight time. The old chap here bought it off the airforce in the 1950's and they gave him three days to dismantle it and get it off the base- which of course he did !. He then somehow moved it over 100 kms on our narrow roads and reassembled it and built a shed around it. He has a fascinating collection of planes he bought home including a Mustang, Kittyhawk, Hudson Bomber, Harvard, Tiger Moth and of course this bueaty. The guy is a real odd chap and he won't sell anything. He just likes to look at it. Who can blame him.

and finally twist through 90 degrees. Makes it harder being a P-40, why couldn't it have a nice easy straight up and down u/c !!!

I thought I might have a crack at a retractable u/c on this P-40 so it can be displayed either as a flying model hanging from the ceiling or up on it's wheels (if I can find the space ) !. A work in progress, very rough but slowly taking shape.
