Next I am going to paint the prop to simulate laminated wood construction. I have a set of 1" diameter WWI style wheels in the mail from Shorty's Basement that will be added as soon as they arrive.

This photo brings out all the dust that was on it. Shame on me for not cleaning it up before I took its picture.
CPNDumas Kit #324, P-38 LightningParked05-Oct-10 21:56

I picked this gem up on eBay for pretty cheap. Not a Dumas P-38, a Comet. I have to be honest - this thing is a bit intimidating. There is no plastic parts - it is all wood. Lots of carving. Funny thing - the wood is great. I'm going to be cutting parts for the next week on this kit.

Nest step is to add machine guns and a pilot. I will fly this if all this southern California rain we're having translates into some tall, soft grass. I am not going to hold my breath though.

I had to use three types of tissue on this stinker - domestic on the bottom of the wings, esaki on the tail feathers and silkspan everywhere else. For some reason, I could not get anyother kind of tissue to agree with this thing but the silkspan. Everything forward of the tail is sealed with two coats of flat clear dope. The red is airbrushed "italian red" acrylic and the white tail is designmaster floral paint.

Not scratch built, but a Sterling peanut scale. This was one of the harder builds I have done. Printwood, peanut and paraspol - the three p's of frustration.

Still to go - canopy, underwing cannon pods, the bomb, and the prop / spinner. Oh - and paint. Lots of paint.

Here's a nice side view. This plane is going to be a Kanonvogel - a ground attack variant. I think this is actual a BF-109G6. The box art, which is great - I'll post a pic later has the aircraft carrying a bomb. Any Luftwaffe experts out there who can tell me if these aircraft were bombers?

This kit is a Sterling BF-109G that I bought on Ebay. Interesting construction. Initially I thought it was like a Guillows kit, but it's not quite the same as building a 500 series. I'm enjoying it though.

All that is left is to paint the prop and add the spinner - oh yeah, and fly it. BTW, no decals - they disintegrated in water so it is all hand painted.

Another view. It is covered in esaki and sprayed with floral spray. I intended for this to be a flyer - I have yet to build a peanut that looks good.

Clearly not a Rufe. This is an old Peck Zero I bought on Ebay for maybe 3.50$. This is a printwook kit, not the laser cut ones like they sell now. Interesting features though. The majority of the wood is 1/20th of an inch, not 1/16th. The structure is very light. If you could see this thing before I covered/painted it, you could see the dozens of crunched parts and repaired mistakes I made.
