Then it was glued such that the painted glossy side was facing in towards the cockpit interior. I folded the edges on either side and left the center piece alone to simulate attachment to the vertical support

The paper was cut along the sides bracketing the vertical support. Punched a few "lightening" holes, and painted overall flat black. I made sure to paint along the edges to avoid the white paper showing through.

To simulate the brackets and rigging inside the cockpit, I first cut some pieces of paper that is also glossy on one side. Then matched it up with my intended cockpit wooden supports.

I twisted the sheave to help give you an idea of the small size and groove. According to the BlueJacket catalogue, these two accessories are cast in "Britannia Metal."

This is the size "sheave" I ordered to be used to simulate the pulley system that can be seen through the triangular inspection window (I haven't gotten that far yet).

This is the latest pricing on both the sheaves (grooved pulley wheel), and turnbuckles as well as their different sizes.

What we call the grooved wheel portion "pulleys," they're listed as "sheaves" in the BlueJacket catalog. I've also included turnbuckles, but they're too large for my scale. Still, for anyone working on a larger model, this is truly a cheap alternative. Special note: their turnbuckles are non-functioning.

For those who might be interested in obtaining another source of accessories: here are a few postings from Blue Jacket.

The simulated "turnbuckles" can easily be made from small circular and tubular beads that are easily obtainable at almost all arts and crafts stores. It's just pinching the end of the thin half-round plastic strip to fit the beads and then glue t the end points. drilled out at the appropriate locations.

As you can see, these half-found thin plastic strips offer near-airfoil shapes as the real steel cable rigging.

Rigging. Evergreen makes half-round thin strips that will serve as steel rigging on almost all biplanes made after the First World War. They are 14 1/4" in length and different sizes. These were chosen for the S.E. 5.
