The exhaust pipes and supercharger were external on the P-30 which was re-designated as the PB-2A.

This is an original P-30. There was a free flight event called P30. I decided to build a semi scale P-30 model for that event so I would have a P-30 P30. It wa srubber powered and flew pretty well, consistently just under 60 seconds. With the advent of electric power and really small radio equipment I converted it to RC. I flew it a while and eventually crashed just about breaking the fuselage in half. This is the wreckage with some repairs.

This gives an idea of the small size of the model. Its currently hanging over the breakfast table. My wife wants me to hange more of my models around the house; I marreid a winner.

I wanted to fly it but glide test indicate the the horozontal tail is too small, it won't trim for a stable glide. Perhaps if the wing were more scale, ie 3 inches shorter, it would be stable but thee it wouldn't be a 1936 Comet model. That could be a future project, howerve.

Sitting next to a foam rc P 26. I had intended to make another Comet P 26 as an rc but the foam P 26 is so unstable (always wants to roll over on its back) I decided that isn"t a good idea.

I used butyrate dope on the tissue. I think it would have come out better with nitrate.

Notice the wooden balsa prop. That's the way it was back in the day.

I used the color scheme of the Peashooter in the Air Force Museum. You can get goot photos from their web site.

In checking against scale data the wing is about 3 inches longer than it should be. I suspect the Comet made that dimension accurate the model would be too large for the 10 cent model fleet which generally had a 16 inch wingspan.
