pfinn | Dumas Kit #220, Westland Lysander | Build | 04-Feb-10 21:52 | | Views : 1481 | AUW so far, including battery. Balances good. Indoor/Outdoor. Maybe I'll get a real video camera for this one to make sure if something spectacular happens (other than it actually flying, that is). Carnage happens in this wonderful hobby. It's even better in Hi-Def nowadays! |
pfinn | Dumas Kit #220, Westland Lysander | Build | 04-Feb-10 15:13 | | Views : 1525 | The battery compartment will be down the center. 1s 150Mah 15c. |
pfinn | Dumas Kit #220, Westland Lysander | Build | 04-Feb-10 15:11 | | Views : 2335 | Installed. Apperantly thr Lysander wanted a radio compartment hatch. It will be located forward of the canopy. Thid section of the fuse sort of removed itself during handling. he he ;o0. |
pfinn | Dumas Kit #220, Westland Lysander | Build | 04-Feb-10 15:06 | | Views : 1455 | Mounted the radio "Brick" (reciever,2 servos.Esc). The stock motor mount's (white) four posts (well I kinda broke one off, doh!) squeeze tightly into the four silicon inserts (Handy Dandy fuel line... again). Why? Your guess is as good as mine! Maybe to keep the gear buzz from resonating through the model like a speaker. ;o). Machined in 2 degrees right thrust and 1.5 down. Will be swinging a big Prop (relatively speaking). |
pfinn | Dumas Kit #220, Westland Lysander | Build | 31-Jan-10 20:50 | | Views : 993 | Slowly but surely... Basic 1/16" square balsa Stab but added very lightweight 1/32" caps and sanded to airfoil (max thickness at 25-30% to .020" (about) at trailing edge. Offset hinge line. If this "Lead Sled" is going to fly, it's going to need all the help it can get! |
pfinn | Dumas Kit #220, Westland Lysander | Build | 26-Jan-10 20:09 | | Views : 694 | Back to the Lysander. Chunky beginnings of the tailgroup. The elevator (er?) is split, hence more of the wire bend-a-roo's. Actual hinges this time... |

pfinn | Dumas Kit #220, Westland Lysander | Build | 15-Dec-09 05:26 | | Views : 864 | More "Monkey Motion". Aileron linkage pretty much figured out. Flaps just need servo and pushrod install. The wings will slide on and off and be held in place with some neodymium magnets as well as the struts. |
pfinn | Dumas Kit #220, Westland Lysander | Build | 08-Dec-09 03:30 | | Views : 857 | Remove from taped support (need a bit of patience there), cut control surfaces. in this case, two cuts through the trailing edge lamination. Viola! Ailerons and flaps. Flaps are bottom hinged, ailerons, top. |
pfinn | Dumas Kit #220, Westland Lysander | Build | 08-Dec-09 03:23 | | Views : 740 | Bonded, sanded, and tortional stiffeners installed. Gusseting comes later. |
pfinn | Dumas Kit #220, Westland Lysander | Build | 08-Dec-09 03:21 | | Views : 661 | Then just continue with main wing then control surfaces and box in (where needed). Ileft all these oversize in heighth for sanding after bonding. These are not bonded yet because the tape is holding it all together till I'm sure it's satisfactory. |
pfinn | Dumas Kit #220, Westland Lysander | Build | 08-Dec-09 03:15 | | Views : 665 | Starting with the main wing side, I opened up a slot to accept the sub spar(?) with clearance for the aileron torque tube, notches for ribs, and a 1.5 degree angled slot for carbon fiber locator pin. |
