There are a few airscrews trapped in this cherry blank. The next task is to set a four bladed one free for Ogre!

At last a harbinger of spring. Crocus longiflorus. Unfortunately not the saffron variety. Snow showers possible tonight. Ho hum!

The aerodynamically superb air scoop is tweaked a tad.

The air scoop is securely held in place with a bungee made from some elastic chord. Two faux turn buckles inserted into the engine pit wall, hold the bungee in place. I would not be surprised if the real BE12a used a similar method.

Third time was the charm for the air scoop. The first fabrication utilized card stock, the second sheet styrene. The third and, fortunately, final attempt Al roof flashing....Bingo...success! I added a patina to eliminate the annoying glare.

Being true to his word my little pal, our little friend, Gumby, departed this day. With his worldly necessities in his little travel package he is off to lands south of the border. Mexico is his destination. He believes that employment there is easy to find, due to the vast numbers of illegal immigrants traveling north.

The ailerons are connected together with cable. The crossed silver cables pull the ailerons and their connecting strut up or down. The continuous loop of cable produces the opposite effect on the “Udder” side. The linkage cables for the ailerons are exposed running, almost medially, on the upper and lower air planes. The ‘Jenny” has a similar external aileron system.

The air scoop for the RAF engine was finalized this day. The third attempt was the charm and the material of choice....Al roof flashing!!! When completed the scoop will be similar to a cap in that it can be removed with ease to show the engine. My research shows that though the “stock RAF aero-plane came equipped with a factory air scoop, the the scoop was either modified or removed in the field.

With all of the clutter between the windscreen and the airscrew it is easy to see why adding gun sights for both the Vickers and Lewis guns was a difficult and somewhat superfluous installation. The pilot can never easily align sights, over the guns, from his flight position. I would imagine that without a definite sight picture the nose of the aircraft was used and bullets were sprayed at the target.
