The machine gun assembly is mounted to the plane with the gunner in position. The gunner is also moveable, as he has a pin glued, that sticks out from his bottom, that sticks into a hole in the mounting plate in the gunner cockpit that the gunner figure sits on.

I then installed the Lewis machine gun (there is a wire sticking out from the bottom of the machine gun balsa bracket mount), into one of several adjustable holes drilled into the base ring. The aluminum top ring can slide to different positions over the base ring, and the machine gun can be placed into the different holes in the base ring.

I made the adjustable top ring from 3/32" dia. aluminum tubing ( the first try with 1/8" tubing was way too thick). I made little brown sleeves from a plastic brown lid from a styrofoam coffee cup, and I CA'd them to the adjustable top ring, so that it could slide around on the bottom base ring (painted golden brown). I then slid the top adjustable ring onto the base ring.

I made the wooden wheel pants as per plan, and I stained all of the wing struts, nose block, and wheel pants and struts, with "Golden Oak" color, and then spray clear-coated them all with Krylon Clear Gloss.

To install the decals of the wing, fuse, and rudder, onto the right spot, I cut out templates, with the individual call sign letters and numbers, and the fuse side decals, the holes thereof being cut out a little larger for the decal placement, and I masking taped these templates to the fuse and wing first, in oder to place the decals straight.

Our last day of fun for me and my bird dog "Trapper", upland gamebird hunting at the local pheasant hunt preserve. Perfect weather - sunny, no wind, 18 deg F at the break of dawn rising to 27 deg F by noon, and a lot of action hunting the wiley Ringneck. We love an organic meal once in a while.

It had a Menasco "Pirate" C4 four cylinder air-cooled inverted engine, and a top speed of 166 mph. It was introduced in 1935, but was unable to pass the stringent aircraft spin tests for several years.

The SPEEDSTER was slender, sleek and classy, and clean lined and beautiful. Because of the narrow fuselage, the plane had 2 person tandem seating - one pilot in the front, and one passenger in the rear.

The REARWIN SPEEDSTER was a "Golden Age" high-wing strut braced monoplane sport aircraft of the 1930s, which had an enclosed cabin, a narrow fuselage, and fixed tailskid undercarriage, and was founded by Andrew "Rae" Rearwin.
