Notice the first stringer on the bottom has been repaired and the 4th stringer also. But I'm determined to end up with a "Poppy, or a John "O" or a Ducket", quality model when it's finished. Also, notice the broken stringer hanging down, that one just broke as I picked it up to turn it for this photo. "The trials and tribulations of an Old modeler"!

SW...MANY of us are old. Here's a simple trick I learned with flimsy stringers. BEFORE you start, flex them with your finger. If they break too easily...THROW THEM OUT!!! Go out and buy some that better suit your needs. Saves a whole lot of frustration. Bass wood works best for me.

John G. that's good advice, and I heed it, but, I live at the edge of the world. And balsa, or any hobby supplies are not available. I have to order everything online. Once it gets here, if I'm not happy with it, I'll send it back. If I've been waiting for it for some time, then I might just have to make do with it. Or be stuck waiting forever to have it replaced. I don't have Television service, so my entertainment is modeling and reading. So, sorry if I sound like I'm complaining in my post. I'm just trying to show why you see broken and repaired stringers.

SW...Tower Hobbies has 1/16 x 1/16 x 24 basswood stringers. 60 for $12.19. Suspect Sig Mfg. has them also. No matter where you live a computor and the internet can buy you anything you are willing to pay for.

That's interesting, John, I asked Tower Hobbies for the stiffest wood that they had available, and they said that it was the balsa that I used on this model. It was some girl, who, I don't think knew here head from her a--. I'll try them again. Thanks for the info.
