This Mosquito was the toughest build I have ever attempted. The kit I had was 15 years old and after I looked at the plans and the print-wood, I closed the box and put it on the shelf. But I got bored last fall and remembered an old expression from the service, that you needed to be smarter than the box you wanted to open. The plans didn’t explain the wing alignment thing but I made a little jig to align the stringers and worked that out; the engine nacelles looked like you built them in space so I sheeted the lower section of the wing surfaces; and the square fuselage tube is the weakest frame I have ever seen. I used diagonals between each vertical to provide axial support, gussets between each square and it still has a pronounced twist. The kit was so old that I didn’t get the good decals or the nice plastic spinners. What is interesting is that the Dumas Bearcat I am working has the same design, just very robust. No twist, the laser parts are perfect and the alignment of all makes for a nice frame. The stringers break when I look at them so I used my leftovers from Guillow’s. I would be very proud of the work that you are accomplishing, nice plane, very nice. I may get this kit again, but I just picked up the Guillow’s version for my retirement. Too many in the queue, so little time.

Yes, Rod they are Tamiya tape. I haven't made any hardware for the belts. It's so small, I may not.

Very nice indeed SW, I particularly like the seat belts, are they Tamiya tape? I look forward to seeing the finished model.

John,I have enough trouble making two identical things. The right one is OK. I think I'll leave it alone.

Maybe cut them both and make them look alike.

That's exactly what I did Wings, I worked on two plastic models that I had and now I'm ready to tackle this Mossy.

this cooled me down enough, I'll cut that nacelle off the Mossy later tonight.

I got this free at the Vets. Hospital. it's 1/144 scale. Way too small for these old eyes.

Boy this thing is small. But not bad. Huh?

this is a 1/48 scale F9F Panther cockpit. A cool down period from the Mossy.

Don't get yourself dis-heartened my friend. We all get disappointed by our builds from time to time. Just make a mental note of the problem so that next time the problem will not raise its head. My problem is impatience or misreading the plans. See it as a challenge. Or start another build and go back to it. You will sort it out and when its finished you will get a better sense of achievement.

Has anyone ever done business with Lucky models, They're in the orient somewhere. I sent them 21.95 about 3 weeks ago for some "Remove before flight" tags, I waited a week and they never shipped them, I e-mailed them three times and no response, the fourth time I cancelled the order. Another week went by and no response. I e-mailed them again and flamed them, this time they said that they had cancelled the order at my request and had e-mailed me back, but my ISP had probably blocked the e-mail. A few days later I got duplicate e-mail from another individual from the same company. I waited a week and no refund. So I flamed them again last Thursday and today I get an e-mail saying that they had placed a request for a refund but it would take several days for the process to go through. I believe that they aren't very reliable, and are just playing with my money interest free for a few days. If you don't mind waiting about a month for your order, I would suggest that you NOT order from Lucky Models.

Keep at it, SW. We need more Mossies in this world!

One of the things I promised myself during my builds is that if I'm not having fun, put it away awhile. I find myself not cursing if something goes wrong. A mistake is now a learning opportunity: How can I fix it? I encourage you to approach these challenges that way. This is a hobby and should be fun. Mistakes will be made. And mistakes can be fixed.

I think I can cut off the offending part with my Dremel and rebuild it and cement it back on. But not now.

I glued the nose of my Avro Arrow on upside down! I am unable to take it off without big time damage. Some people would not notice it, but those whom know the Arrow would. Everyone makes a monumentous oops occasionally.
