Found that using micro Heat shrink tubing and a dab of CA works great for that on small models like this. You can shrink the tubing around the wire and rod (use a soldering iron not a flame. The carbon rod will distort if heated too much. Believe me, I know! ;o) ) and this will yield a tight, but adjustable, length for fine tuning. then lock it in place with a dab of CA.
