| David Duckett | 28-Jan-10 02:06 | | The glue is an "evaporative solvent" and very thin, and crystal clear so it's hard to see and the temptation is to use too much but it works as advertised so don't. I clamped the pieces together and used the brush applicator with the glue to lay down a thin coat and let it set for about 30 minutes before gluing in the styrene rod. After another 30 minutes I laid in a thin bead of medium CA and then applied "kicker" to that. "You ain't goin' nowhere, sucker !" It's very important to let it cure thoroughly but when it does it is quite durable. I marked the mold line with a pencil and used the razor knife to carefully cut away the excess. I had to use 80 grit sandpaper on the block to effectively remove the rest and then 150 to finish. (Looks a bit rough) I then applied the Squadron white putty with a spatula and let it dry for 30 minutes before sanding. The intake on the wing is what it looks like. The white putty is actually grey and the color difference shows but it's actually very smooth. I had to use a second application on the one shown BC, before cutting, to make it work but it did. Good stuff! Dumas says to use this basic technique but adding the styrene rod instead of the 3/16" strip makes much more sense and is much easier to do and gives better results. Dumas also says to use Squadron green putty to "coverup the unsightly seam". |

| frwyflyer | 28-Jan-10 06:15 | | Very nice indeed!!.. I was wondering how the intakes would be handled with the Dumas kit. I remember making "Thud" in the mid 1950's from a Comet kit and the intakes were part of the fuselage. This is much nicer. |
