Beautiful pic, DD. Not as colorful as the more common blue/yellow paintjob. What's throwing me off is the late war national insignia with the early red/white/blue tail?

Yet to see a DD bipe. Probably doesn't allow for all the extra wood. Great photo.

Thanks, Poppy. It's tough to keep up with you! I don't know about the color yet. The P 40 is just as jaw-dropping gorgeous as all your other planes.

Excellent craftsmanship. Color Scheme decided?

Actually the B 29 pieces are filled with lightweight filler. The landing gear pieces on the P 39 and the C 47 are made using casting resin. But...it was Matt Olson's idea which I borrowed, I didn't even know what it was.
David Duckett, Comment for image # 404715 Aug 07 18:32
The material is thicker and easier to work with and the pieces fit really well. There are also a lot fewer plastic pieces involved. The plastic in all of these has been consistent in thickness, as has the quality of the wood and the die cut pieces generally just fall out. I'm amazed that the kits are so inexpensive. They are probably not for the faint hearted but I really like them.

This is beautiful and smooth (one of many adjectives that really get a workout whenever your work is described!!!) I think David's idea of fillng some small vacuumformed parts with casting resin is brilliant!!! (ref. to DD's B-29 landing gear parts)

Beautiful David. How would you compare the styrene pieces from the Today's Hobbies kit to Guillows pieces in regards to fit and consistent thickness? Because they are vacuum formed, the Guillows at times seem really thin from stretching at the point of cut off, causing weakened pieces and are sometimes a PIA to sand and shape.

At least you are a lot closer to El Charro Cafe in Tucson.

Many thanks. I've heard of that technique but I'm afraid that would require a lot more work than I care to put into it. It's been abnormally hot down here, as well. You should see my electric bill!!

Your work is impressive. Especially this technique of balsa/silkspan. Have you considered layering the silk to replicate the panel lines? A very light wash at the end would make them stand out nicely. By the way, up here in Phoenix it is hotter than...well, it is pretty dang hot. Even for Phoenix.

Looking good. Keep em coming.
