Two boys from the High School were watching from the Cricket stands and I got one of the boys to take a pic of my launch ( my only pic of launching the Speedster ).

I stretch wound 330 to 450 winds into the rubber and had about 14 great flights, all circling left from one complete circle to one and one-quarter circles. I used a little bit of down tab on the left elevator and a little bit of clay weight on the right wingtip to widen the circles out a little bit - thanks for the tip "Free" ( 'spliffsecond '), of the weight on the opposite wing.

Landings today were pretty soft coming back into the 7 mph wind and running out the rubber.

REARWIN SPEEDSTER FLIGHT REPORT MAY 8 2018 (cont) Plus the grass was still 6" long and thick, as they mowed the rest of the park yesterday, but had not mowed the cricket Wicket yet today.

She is flying with broken ankles, where the 1/32" wire bends at the bottom of the triangular balsa landing gear trousers. A big chunk of wood is missing on the bottom of the left trouser, and I just attached the balsa wheel pant to the wire with a thick elastic. It works real good, and I just bend the wire back into shape on both gear, after landing.

REARWIN SPEEDSTER FLIGHT REPORT MAY 8 2018 (cont) She has the braided 3/16" motor of four strands, when twisted up and resting, is just under 15" inches long, with prop hook to rear peg of 15 inches.

When we got home at Noon, the wind was 9 mph from the SW, gusting to 14 mph, and 45% humidity.

REARWIN SPEEDSTER FLIGHT REPORT MAY 8 2018 On May 8 2018, we headed out to the Cricket Wicket in Jackson Park with the Dumas 30" REARWIN SPEEDSTER, high wing Jumbo. At 11:00 AM, it was 63 deg F, with winds 7 mph from the south, gusting to 11 mph, and ONLY 45% humidity! - but with still lots of dew on the long grass.

I made the wooden wheel pants as per plan, and I stained all of the wing struts, nose block, and wheel pants and struts, with "Golden Oak" color, and then spray clear-coated them all with Krylon Clear Gloss.

To install the decals of the wing, fuse, and rudder, onto the right spot, I cut out templates, with the individual call sign letters and numbers, and the fuse side decals, the holes thereof being cut out a little larger for the decal placement, and I masking taped these templates to the fuse and wing first, in oder to place the decals straight.

Girlfriends and wives come and go but a "GOOD HUNTING DOG" is very hard to find!
LASTWOODSMAN, Comment for image # 3818925 Mar 17 20:39
This dog just blows me away. He caught a big cock-bird, all by himself, and comes waltzing up to me with it in his mouth, and proceeds to set it on the ground in front of me, instead of giving it to my hand, as if to say "You shoot it so I can retrieve it" (I had just missed a couple) - needless to say, it peeled away and I got it first shot, and Trapper did his regular perfect retrieve - sit, hold, shake a paw, shake other paw, in my hands droop it - I just love this dog!

There were only two engines - two prototype planes were built with the ACE CIRRUS 4 cylinder - then work was suspended between 1934 - 1937, after which only twelve Speedster planes were built with the MENASCO PIRATE 4-cyl inverted.

Please permit me to rephrase the question. If your realistic looking aero plane were real, and you were purchasing one from the manufacturer, which engine would you prefer? Were all engines four cylinder?

Who looks happier, Trapper or the Last Woodsman?
LASTWOODSMAN, Comment for image # 3818725 Mar 17 19:36
John - it is hooked up for rubber band power, but I can't bring myself to fly it - I should have used 1/16" wire for the landing gear instead of 1/32" wire (the free floating landing gear struts and wheel pants are not glued to the fuselage) - it's my best and largest model at 30" wing span.

Our last day of fun for me and my bird dog "Trapper", upland gamebird hunting at the local pheasant hunt preserve. Perfect weather - sunny, no wind, 18 deg F at the break of dawn rising to 27 deg F by noon, and a lot of action hunting the wiley Ringneck. We love an organic meal once in a while.

Which ,of the three power plants, did you install in this plane?
