Wow! Thanks for that, David. You have made my day. Still a long way to go on the build and a lot of learning.

Pulled up the site today and clicked on the Random Image of the Sopwith Camel, which brought me to Dfell message. Reading the correspondence, I noticed three of you were from New Zealand. This sparked my interest, since we just spent two weeks vacationing in New Zealand last month. You have a beautiful country. Visited the Omaka Aviation Center. Checked out your individual hangars and see you like the large Guillow's models. I've built the 53" wingspan B-29, a kit no longer available from Gillow's. David Ducket's site helped me a lot when building it. My hangar is Dale1416

If it comes out reasonable/good? It looks great!

Roring 40/Stirling - Thanks for your comments and advice, guys. If this project comes out reasonable/good I will post some pictures on here and let you know how I got on.

Not sure about the good looks or personality but the women I spoke to did have a very pleasant voice and was quite keen for a good old chin wag. Shame I had to hurry her along, what with the cost of the call mounting with each passing minute.

It must be your stunning good looks and charming personality Gary. Next time I'll pretend to be you !

Like Nigel I to am from NZ. I rang Guillows early last year to get a couple of plastic parts for my Libby which somehow became damaged after little hands had a play. They quite happily shipped these out to me. They even cut around each individual part so that they could package it all smaller thus saving $ on shipping. Seems it depends on which person you make contact with.

Nice job on the Camel - it looks fantastic. David D has posted an excellent How To on prop carving. I gave it a go with my Thomas Morse and was pleasantly surprised how much fun it was to see it develop. I'm in New Zealand and have the same problem with spares. Guillows are unwilling to ship abroard it seems.

John, Thanks - I'll try both ideas - although the last time I made this plane or anything like it I was 12yrs oid (nearly 50 yrs ago) so hopefully I can get an appropiate size R/C propeller although I still would like to see how to get spares from Guillows as I will be making more of their planes and no doubt I will make mistakes.

I suggest getting an appropriate size of R/C propeller. There are numerous sizes and shapes available and most local hobby shops carry them. If you get a wooden prop, such as a Top Flite, you can carve it to the exact shape, sand off the markings and stain it. The result will be a very realistic looking prop.

Having stumbled onto this web site and and been inspired by the likes of David Duckett I thought I'd have a go at a Sopwith Camel ( last time I made this I was 12 yrs old - nearly 50 yrs ago - and I dread to think how that turned out) Anyway not being anywhere as good as David I have mucked up joining the two halves of the propeller and being outside of the United States I don't think I can get spare parts from Guillows. Any ideas? other than moving to US.
