Brian, The straws are the receptacles for the struts. Struts are made of the normal material but a little longer. Regarding the flattening, originally these were concave as seen in this photo, I later changed to a flat bottom airfoil. BTW - Merry Christmas!

sorry this is new to me. the stirrers are the struts? what do you mean by flattened down the bottom of the ribs?

Hi Mr. Wilson, This is actually green over cream colored tissue from Easy Built. I drew the design on the plans and then laid the tissue over the plans. The tissue was applied with a glue stick. Thank you for the compliments!
