SteveM | 27-Mar-08 23:00 | Wing weighed 39.4 grams before covering and is 50.3 grams fully covered, which works out to around 34 gsm. I need to patch some small areas with wrinkles, but that is ok as I need to get access to install the forgotten servos. :o |
SteveM | 27-Mar-08 23:03 | Oh, and scratch tests show no significant difference between painting over smooth doculam and the side that I scuffed up with sandpaper. It won't flake off, but I can see it rubbing off in areas with frequent wear. Maybe a shot of crystal clear would help, I will test and see. |
SteveM | 28-Mar-08 00:52 | I have concluded my paint test. Roughing up with sandpaper seems to help a little, as does a coat of crystal clear. But in any case you need to scrape with a hard object and a fair amount of force. Although for the Tyro I am thinking of leaving it clear, I like the look and it would simplify repairs. |
poppy | 28-Mar-08 09:43 | Wow!! Leaving it clear would certainly show the fine construction work and would probably make it lighter, but with an electric that may not matter as much. I really like this material. |
SteveM | 28-Mar-08 12:15 | Yes it would look good and save weight, but I realized that it would be more difficult to see. What I should do is paint it in bright colors with the wing and fuselage different colors so when flying I can figure out the orientation. |
